Veteran's Day, 2009...!

With all that's going now days, today may be more important than usual!

Let's take time to visit some of these sites and try to get a real sense of history from each one. This is one celebration that we all can be a part of proudly.

This information, as well as the links...are supplied by Farmer's Almanac.

Veteran's Day (United States)

Originally Armistice Day, commemorating the signing of the agreement that ended World War I at 11:00 A.M., November 11, 1918, this federal holiday was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. At that time, it became a day to honor all the men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United States......Each year, special ceremonies are held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Consider spending some time on-line learning more about our nation's veterans. The Great War Society has developed a Web site devoted to World War I educational materials. The World War II Memorial celebrates the victory of "the greatest generation" with a design that uses moving water to harmonize with its natural surroundings. Visit the Korean War Veterans Memorial online; this moving memorial, dedicated in 1995, is the latest addition to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. See a registry of all the names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington. Learn more about the military men and women who are on duty today.

Remembrance Day (Canada)—November 11
This day honors veterans who have died in service to their country (similar to Memorial Day in the United States).

It's important that we remember our Brothers-In-Arms in Canada, as well as our own here in the United States!

God bless our Freedom, God bless our troops, and God bless our great country!

Now, my friends, let's get some coffee and sit outside...we can raise our cups in a toast to all the Veterans everywhere that continue to give their all for freedoms cause!

Every day we see a soldier is Veteran's Day for the denizens of Casa de Crazy...we like to tell them "Thank you" whenever we can.

The Evil Genius and I appreciate the men and women who place themselves in harm's way for us.

Freedom isn't free...it is bought with the blood, sweat, tears, and bodies of service men and women.

Thank you, veterans.

Shade and Sweetwater,
K

Bubba -

The Stars & Stripes Forever is playing on my computer as I type! I thanked "my" veteran this morning, and am proudly wearing my red, white, and blue. As my USO bracelet says, "Support Our Troops", even if you don't support the wars or the administration. And give to the USO - they get NO financial support from government, y'know, all just regular folks like you & me giving their $. God Bless them all!

Hey JoJo...
Good morning to you, my sweet! Glad you could drop in and raise a mug with us, but then my day wouldn't be complete without your visit!

Thank ou for being here this morning!

Hey Cath...
How could we NOT remember our dear friends in Canada, and everywhere else, that supports the cause of freedom . The veterans from there paid the same price as did the vets from home!

Thank you for coming by...and thank your vets for standing with us!
